KCCA FC sensational teenager Allan Okello will reportedly join Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam and not South African club Mamelodi Sundowns as earlier believed.
The 17-year-old had for the past weeks been linked to the reigning African champions, also home to Uganda Cranes captain and first choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango.
KCCA F.C chairman Julius Kabugo however insists the deal is not yet conclusive
We were approached by a number of clubs from North Africa, Eastern Europe, Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Amsterdam.
We can not authoritatively say the deal is done although Ajax Amsterdam presented good offers for the club and player as an individual.
His managers and parent club reportedly opted for Ajax Amsterdam because of the better development opportunities and long term benefits to KCCA Football Club.
Okello had impressed Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach Pitso Mosimane during the CAF Champions League first round match in Kampala.
A Citizen Phakaaathi source revealed how Okello might end up in Ajax Amsterdam:
The deal was never going to happen because Mosimane let it slip that he would take Okello to the juniors.
Sundowns’ development is not known for producing any remarkable players and that was a major turn off for his managers.
Okello is seen as the best thing to come out of Uganda in recent years and everyone wants him to become the best.
Okello is expected to join alongside two other talented players in Brazilian striker Danilo Pereira Da Silva (18), and Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski (17).
Kotarski arrives on a three-year deal from Dinamo Zagreb, while Danilo comes from Santos in a €2 million deal.
Kawowo Sports has established that as part of the deal, Allan Okello’s current club, KCCA FC will be invited for a tour in the Netherlands.
KCCA will also play different training matches in Netherlands as a way of exposing the talented crop of player.
According to football-oranje.com, Okello will first play in the junior side for Ajax Amsterdam called Jong Ajax.
The Junior side has of late promoted a host of promising talents to the senior team like Matthijs de Ligt and Justin Kluivert.
Okello, who has previously played for the Northern Region in the famous U-17 Airtel Rising Stars, was born and bred in Lira at Destiny Soccer Academy before he crossed over to Kibuli S.S.
