As a way of ‘appreciating’ the chess fraternity in Jinja district, Uganda Chess Federation [UCF] has organized a rapid tourney dubbed the Jinja Rapid Chess tournament.
The venue for this event was confirmed yesterday by UCF General Secretary Henry Ategeka as the Source Garden Hotel, and it’s scheduled to happen on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
“The rapid tournament in Jinja is what we would call a fun chess along the Nile,” Ategeka stated.
“It emphasizes happiness, socializing, encouraging and letting our Jinja players know that we appreciate their presence in the chess community, and given there’s a dedicated team playing in the league, it is important to boost them with tournaments in their home turf.
“So please come join if you can and let’s play chess outside Kampala,” urged Ategeka.
Interested players are required to part with a sum of Ugx.10,000 as participation fee. The event shall be a Swiss-system tourney with a time control of 15 minutes flat.
On whether the winners shall be rewarded, Ategeka Says: “It’s a fun competition so we shall decide on Friday what to do with the collections. We may donate to clubs in Jinja or buy boards.”
