After his Man of Match bowling performance last week in a losing effort to Damani, the big left hander Innocent Ndawula was very optimistic about the ability of his team and the reason why they were sure they would stay up.
“We know we will not be relegated. We are likely to be playing kingmaker. One of the big boys will run into us when we are not in charitable mood. Tornado Bee should carry some luck with them because we are due a big collective performance,” Ndawula said prior to the game against Tornado B
And with the curse of the tongue, Charity managed to beat Tornado B by 5 wickets on Sunday in Entebbe.
The win greatly boosts Charity’s chances of staying but throws a spanner in the works for Tornado B who batted first setting a modest target of 194/6 in their 50 Overs, with Lawrence Ssemnatimba (50) and Akbar Baig (44) handy contributions with the bat.
In reply, Charity chased down the total for a loss of only 5 wickets. National team all rounder Jonathan Ssebanja (56) and U19 player Stephen Wambose (48) helping Charity get a 5 wicket win.
The loss means Tornado B cant afford any more slip ups and they will have to work very hard to make sure they win all their remaining games till the decider against Damani.
Tornado B captain Jeremy Kibuuka Musoke was gracious in defeat and said this was a good wake up call for his team as they took Charity for granted.
Guys thought it would be walk in the park. Now reality has come in I know but we shall pick ourselves up.
In Kyambogo, Kutchi continued their fine form picking up their 3 win in a row by beating Nile by 6 wickets.
With relegation rivals Charity picking up a win in Entebbe, Nile is running out of games to save their season. They set 156 runs all out with Abu Sseguya (59) and youngster Miyagi Juma (33) helping them to that total.
Despite losing 4 wickets, Kutchi was in control knocking off the deficit with Nanji Pindoria (37) and DineshKumar Nakhrani (88) useful with bat in hand for Kutchi Tigers.
The win moves Kutchi into 3rd place despite playing a game more than KICC while Nile drops down into the relegation places.
Wanderers traveled to Jinja and picked up a 91 run win, defeating home side Jinja SS. Wanderers batted first and set 212 with Denis Musali (72) and Adonia Waibale (29) holding it together for Wanderers. Abii Norbert bowled a magic spell (4/35) to dismiss Jinja SS for 121. The win makes sure Wanderers pulls away from the relegation places but will need to win some more games to be certain of survival.
Premier stopped their win less run by defeating SKPLS by 6 wickets in Buddo. SKPLS set 137 and in reply Premier chased down the total with a loss of only 6 wickets.
On Saturday, Pirates beat Division 3 table toppers Avengers by 44 runs. Both teams are fighting for promotion to Division 2 and if Avengers had won the game they would have been more less assured of promotion. But they will have to wait for favours from other teams as they also win their remaining games.
Pirates on the other hand keep their promotion hopes alive and they will have to thank the timeless Joshua Mwanja who was Man of the match.
Captain Nirav Sheek bemoaned the poor officiation which he says cost his team the match and ultimately promotion to Division 2.
We gave away too many extras bowling first. They bowled well in first 10-12 overs which we always knew that they will. But, then umpires were in a hurry to finish the match 2-3 bad decisions and we were knocked out. There is nothing much to it add to it.
