  • Jinja Sevens Final
  • Kobs 19-7 Buffaloes

For the second consecutive weekend, Betway Kobs faced off with Toyota Buffaloes in a final in the national sevens championship.

Having defeated the Kyadondo side 12-7 to win the Kyadondo sevens last weekend, Kobs did the same to lift the Jinja Sevens cup at Dam Waters in Jinja on Saturday.

The Legends side eased past their opponents in the preliminary match ups and went on to end the second circuit of the season without defeat.

After overcoming Mutoni Warriors in the semifinals, the real test for Kobs would come in shape of Buffaloes.

And, the final lived up to its billing – at least until halftime.

Joseph Aredo had opened the scoring early in the game with James Ijongat converting for the defending champions to lead 7-0.

Buffaloes were never going to go down without a fight though. Paul Masendi completed a quick start with a touch down that was converted to level matters going into the halftime break.

After restart, Kobs dominated proceedings and forced Buffaloes into several errors from which they capitalised.

On the two occasions Buffaloes attempted to attack, Eric Kasiita and Masendi fouled Alhajji Manano and Adrian Kasiito respectively to give Kobs breathing space.

Ramathan Govule broke the Buffaloes defence line to set up Kasiito who touched down in descent territory for Ijongat to convert and hand Kobs a 14-7 lead.

There was still more time for Michael Amolo to add his name to the score sheet and put the game beyond reach for Buffaloes.

It was Kobs’ second victory in the campaign as they maintained top spot on the log with Buffaloes holding onto second place.

Buffaloes defeated Heathens 7-5 in the semifinal.

The championship chase shifts to Legends Rugby Club next weekend with Kobs still favourites.
