When fully fit City Oilers’ guard Ben Komakech can light up not only the score board but also the game from the point.

And his club coach – who doubles as the national team coach – Mandy Juruni is well aware of the impact Koma (as he’s popularly known) can have on the game.

While there have been concerns over his fitness since undergoing a knee surgery in 2015 and more so this season as he has played in just 9 games logging about 15 minutes a game, Juruni says Koma is good to go.

“Koma is fit… We would not choose him if he was not,” Juruni told the media before the team’s departure. “He had been tagging with some injuries early in the season but that’s out of the way and he has been working hard,” the soft spoken coach added.

Juruni stressed the importance of the 31-year-old to the team and what he brings on the table, before adding that Jimmy Enabu has been nurtured into a dependable point guard who can chip in to get the job done.

“He (Komakech) has so much experience playing in this team. He is so composed and calm, so it’s always good to have that kind of player who has a very good understanding of the game.”

“But we also have Jimmy Enabu who has been training for the last two years as a point guard. He was our starting point guard during the qualifiers, I have no doubt about him playing in that position and we have been preparing him very well since last year.”

The team will have a two-week camp in Alexandria, Egypt before flying to Dakar, Senegal for the group games.

Uganda is housed in Group B alongside powerhouse Angola, Morocco and the Central African Republic and will require two wins to progress to the quarter finals round.
