Defending champions Wananchi will come face to face with table leaders Kampala Hockey Club Stallions on Saturday in either side’s final game of the second round.

Wananchi will be desperate for three points for a couple of reasons. First, they will come aiming at settling the score having lost the bragging rights when they surrendered the lead to painfully lose 3-2 early last month in the first round.

Wananchi will also come prepared and motivated to hand the Stallions their first defeat of the campaign. Bernard Bwire’s charges have savored their season thus far winning all bar one. They shared spoils with Weatherhead in form of a 3-3 draw two weeks ago, but were comfortably back in winning ways last weekend following their 5-0 beating of Simba.

If there’s a team that can inflict defeat on KHC, it is the record league winners. Both sides are aware of this. It is now upon Wananchi to ensure that the scores are settled.

That 3-2 victory was KHC’s first against Wananchi since 2015 and it was Bwire’s first since he took charge of the side. The Stallions will hope to make it two wins for their coach against one of their foes.

The Reds know this is their realistic opportunity of winning their maiden league title. It is one they’re not willing to misuse. They lead the table standing with 19 points, two ahead of Weatherhead, but victory tomorrow will see them extend the point gap to five points given Weatherhead are out of action this weekend.

Wananchi are safely positioned third with 13 points. A win tomorrow will not alter their position, however, will take them to within three points of the top.
