The Lady Cricket Cranes saved Uganda Cricket from a miserable 2017 by defeating Zimbabwe in the final of the Africa T20 World Cup Qualifiers to be crowned African Champions.
Having lost to Zimbabwe in the group stages, the lady cranes were the underdogs heading into Saturday’s final.
However, Gertrude Chandiru, who has put her hand up whenever Uganda has needed her, delivered the holy grail for Uganda.

While wickets fell around her, Chandiru kept it together, picking up boundaries, and with 7 runs needed off the final over, she was there till the end as Uganda claimed a famous 3-wicket win.
Uganda will now join other regional winners, Scotland, the Netherlands, PNG and test nations Ireland and Bangladesh early next year in the global qualifiers for the World Cup in the West Indies in 2018.

The team returns this afternoon from Windhoek and will be hosted to a winners’ dinner by Uganda Cricket.
