As expected, it was a routine win for team Uganda A in the Africa Online Chess League.

Uganda A met no resistance in dispatching Uganda C as the latter suffered a 7-1 thumping, with Uganda C’s lone point coming inform of a walkover that Ben Luke Owii claimed after David Muwanguzi sat out the first set of the third round.

Kennedy Namwanza, team captain Ezekiel Matsiko, William Kalugo all underwent double suffering at the hands of FM Harold Wanyama, FM Patrick Kawuma, and Walter Okas respectively and Owii couldn’t escape the beating in the second set as Muwanguzi made sure of his presence.

With Nigeria B receiving a bye in the third round which meant two points for the West Africans, Uganda A ascended top and now lead the table standings with 16 points.

Uganda’s other team; Uganda B won one of the two sets and lost one. The side comfortably saw off RSA Juniors 3-1 in the first set, with Joel Emojong, Shakuru Wagodo and Ivan Mugisha winning their respective games and only losing Thomas Katairo’s point, but the side was made to lie on the receiving end in the second set as RSA Junior won the set 3.5-0.5.

Zimbabwe D dislodged Zambia A from the third position. The two sides faced off in the third round and spoils were shared in the first set 2-2, but Zimbabwe D returned a changed side mentally and uprooted their opponents from the third position with a 3-1 victory.

Nigeria A beat Zimbabwe A 3-1 and 4-0 in the first and second set respectively to go fourth with 11 points.

Another Nigerian side, Nigeria D was on a winning side, but it was only in the first set that ended 2.5-0.5 against Zambia B. The second was drawn 2-2. The side now sits eighth in the league with 7 points while Zambia B lie 10th with the same points.

Nambia A outdid compatriots Namibia B to win the tie 5.5-1.5. Victory took Namibia A to the seventh position while Namibia B are second last with 2 points.

Yet to secure a point is Zimbabwe A. The side has lost all its first six games and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Uganda B [seven points] and Uganda C [four points] are placed ninth and tenth respectively in the table standings.
