The second edition of the Kampala City Festival sprint lived up to the billing with the over 40 crews entertaining a horde of fans at the Naguru Estates.

Last year’s winner Ronald Sebuguzi was the first to go on top after posting the fastest time of run one.

He was however beaten to the win by Hassan Alwi who was ninety-eight micro seconds ahead of the Shell sponsored crews after two runs.

“An exciting race it was. It was tight but we are glad we came out winners. We would like to thank all competitors that made it exciting and competitive from the start,” said Joseph Kamya, Alwi’s co-driver.

Sebuguzi’s crew was nevertheless happy with the finish.

“We really enjoyed our drive. Of course, we would have wanted to do a double on the festival but as you can see from the times, it was a tight one,” said Sebuguzi.

Omar Mayanja posted the third fastest time to seal the podium places.

Kuku Ranjit settled for forth followed by Arthur Blick and Ambrose Byona in fifth and sixth respectively.

Andy Musoke came out with the seventh fastest time while Unisan Bakunda and Yasin Nasser settled for eighth and ninth respectively. Yusuf Bukenya sealed the top ten finishers.

Former National Rally Champion Moses Lumala featured in the event as a guest driver.

He drove both his cars; the Mitsubishi Evo X and newly acquired Evo IX.

“I was not really prepared for the sprint having received my new car last evening. I faced a few challenges with it that why I switched to the Evo X.”

“It was not the best of my performance but I am glad I enjoyed myself and noticed what to change on the cars,” he told Kawowo Sports.

The Kampala City Festival sprint is part of the Kampala City Council Authority festivities to commemorate Uganda’s Independence day.
