Maroons’ wait for a home win in the Uganda Premier League this season ended with a 1-0 victory over Proline on Tuesday.
Sidney Chika was the star of the day. The youngster, who had seen his crosses at the start of the match yield nothing, netted the lone goal of the game in the first half to halt Maroons’ frustrating start at home this term.
The goal arrived in the 38th minute when the Proline defense allowed William Kiibi and Solomon Walusimbi to exchange passes inside the eighteen yard box, and Walusimbi, scorer of the lone goal against Masavu last week fed Chika who was well positioned for a tap in.
Maroons had an opportunity to double their lead in the second half when Pius Obuya’s brilliant cross found Walusimbi well stationed and alone in the box, but the forward straightway headed the ball when he could’ve controlled it as he had only the goalkeeper to deal with, and the ball went wide.
Proline tried to get back into the game in the second half, but couldn’t find their way through the maroon wall of Maroons defenders as they saw out victory in relative comfort.
It was another failure for Mujib Kasule’s men to secure three points on the road this campaign. Proline have failed to win a game away from home this season, and this counts as their third successive defeat away from home.
With Bright Stars sharing spoils with Express at Wankulukuku, Maroons rise up to fifth in the league standings. The side now has 12 points, four behind table leaders Police who beat UPDF 1-0 in Bombo.
Proline meanwhile, drop two places down to ninth.
