Challengers

The last time these two met in a T20 game was in the quarterfinals last year, a Roger Mukasa’s century powered Tornado B to 190 but Hamu Kayondo and his opening partner Arthur Kyobe hit the ball to all corners of Lugogo to help challengers to a famous win en route to lifting the title.

Challengers, the defending champions, got out of jail last week when they managed to defeat SKLPS by 10 runs after defending 85 runs but Tornado B wont offer them such favours this weekend.

Tornado B have had a mixed start — defeating Wanderers in their 1st game but surprisingly losing to Kampala Pirates. They have missed Roger Mukasa and Charles Waiswa who are yet to feature in the T20 because of commitments with their Kenyan side Stary Lions. Deus Muhumuza and Fred Achellam were with the Uganda Select XI in Kigali missing the defeat to Pirates but they should all be available this weekend.

Vice Captain Nicholas Kebba doesn’t feel they need individuals to do well. They need the whole team to stand up on the day.

Irrespective of who is available the team will push for a win with the available players on the day.

Challengers are always a good challenge when playing them but we always stay positive and focus on winning. We have a game plan that we definitely intend to execute for the desired results I definitely can’t disclose it in full detail but we shall play hard.

Ivan Thawithemwira, the Challengers captain was clever in his preview choosing his words carefully.

We are taking a game at a time. Obviously Tornado Bee are a seasoned team with lots of experience. So we have to be at our very best.

Opening batsman Hamu Kayondo echoed his captain’s words and Challengers seems to be taking the T20 championship more seriously to compensate for the miserable 50 over season.

We haven’t found our feet well adjusting from 50 over to T20, so we are trying to take it one game at a time hopefully if we do the basics we can cross the line.

This Saturday afternoon encounter will be the pick of matches this weekend.

There will be no rest for either team — Challengers will be taking on Avengers on the astro turf of Buddo while Tornado B takes on Div 2 champions Premier in Kyambogo on Sunday afternoon.
