Algeria made a perfect start to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Senegal in the opening game on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
A goal in either half ensured the North African side cruised to a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Marine Dafeur and Mélissa Bethi.
Dafeur opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, converting from the spot when Senegal’s captain Korka Fall fouled Oud Braham.
Algeria sealed their victory towards the end with Berth, newly signed by Washington Spirit, firing past the goalkeeper.
On the same day, hosts Morocco cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over Kenya to take early charge of Group A.
Teams in this group will return to action on Thursday with Algeria facing Morocco while Senegal will take on Kenya.
