Dubai based Ugandan Joseph Mukasa has initiated a local football tournament, dubbed “J-Mukasa Cup” in Katabi sub county, Wakiso district.

The two month’s tournament, according to the founder and funder will be played on the dusty Nkumba primary school playground, popularly known as the Nkumba Kataka play ground.

In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports from his Dubai base, Mukasa hinted on the significance of starting this tournament;

Promotion of our local talents is key.

The J-Mukasa cup therefore is one plat form of exposing these hitherto unknown talented players so that scouts can recommend them to big clubs (Big league, Azam Uganda Premier League and other clubs outside Uganda)

There are 14 teams registered in this tournament that will be played till January 2018.

The best two per group will qualify for the quarter finals and subsequently the semifinals then final to determine the winner.

According to the chairperson of the local organizing committee, Nasser Kyeyune, the tournament will only accommodate players in the 4th and 5th divisions.

“We expect to use players in the local division leagues. That means, registered players in the top flight (Uganda Premier League) are not allowed to play in this tournament” Kyeyune notes.

The official opening match will see Kagwilawo take on Katabi Kitubulu on Thursday, 23rd November 2017 at Kataka play ground.

The tournament will resume on Friday when team Aki plays Mazuwezo before Saturday’s double header.

J-Light will play Fimbo in the early kick off at 2 p.m and Five Stars shall lock horns with Mpala Parish in the subsequent game.

The winning team at the end of the tournament will smile home will a bull, a trophy and gold medals.

The losing finalist will be rewarded with a set of jersey, He-goat and silver medals while the third placed side will take a set of jerseys and bronze medals.

Each of the 16 teams registered for the tournament will be given a ball.

There are special prizes reserved for the outstanding coach, Most Valuable Player (MVP), best defender and goalkeeper apiece.

  • Group B: Monaco, Kisubi Kitala, Team Aki, Mazowezo
  • Group C: Kitinda, J-Light Kitala, Palm Forest, Fimbo Academy
  • Group D: Five Stars, Mpala Parish, Pentagon, Masqui Noor

  • J-Light Vs Fimbo – 2 p.m
  • Five Stars Vs Mpala Parish – 4 p.m
