- Express FC 0-1 Police FC
Hood Kaweesa lone goal was enough for Police FC to maintain grip at the top of the Uganda Premier League as they downed Express FC 1-0 at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
The game started slowly with either side cautious but the visitors later grew in stature and started to create chances but were denied by poor finishing and good goalkeeping.
Ben Ocen shot over the bar from close range after nice interplay with Kaweesa while Gift Ali had an attempt from over 25 yards miss target by inches.
Emmanuel Opio in Express goal also had to be at his best to tip Yasin Mugume cross cum shot over the bar while at the other end, David Ndihabwe shot wide when presented with the Red Eagles’ best chance.
At the start of the second half, Shafik Bisaso who was in charge of his first game as Express FC coach made a change with Edgar Bwogi replacing Bernard Agele at right back.
But it was the Cops that looked dangerous with Juma Balinya, Kaweesa, Ocen and Yasin Mugume asking all sorts of questions.
The reward came in the 53rd minute when Kaweesa rose highest to nod home a well weighed Balinya cross into the net.
The goal awakened the hosts who started to press but Abdallah Mubiru’s charges remained in charge and should have gone 2-0 up had Ocen not wasted a glorious opportunity inside the 16 yard area when teed up by substitute Ruben Kimera.
Gift Ali forced a good save from Opio after Kaweesa was fouled on the edge of the area.
The Red Eagles best chance fell to Daniel Sserunkuma whose effort in a goal melee left Douglas Kisembo stranded but an acrobatic volley from Tayimour Kimera saved the day.
The win keeps Police top of the standings with 23 points, one ahead of KCCA and SC Villa who won 3-1 and 1-0 against Vipers and Onduparaka respectively but the cops have played one more game.
