After a humbling third successive loss in the National Rally Championship title fight, Duncan Mubiru thinks it’s time to go back to the drawing board before the 2018 season.

Unlike in the past years when he fell out of the title contention in the early stages of the season, this year Mubiru had a chance to fight for the title till the final round.

“It’s so sad that we have lost the title after coming so close than before. So many things have let to our defeat including the regulations aspect.

“May be I would be a champion by now if we took on the right procedures during Hoima Rally. But my co-driver then could not help me out on rules when I needed him the most,” explained Mubiru.

However, Mubiru feels it’s time to attempt new strategies for next season.

“This year has taught me a lot of stuff. It’s now time to go back to the drawing board. If it means cramming all regulations I will try than waiting for someone to help during an event.

“Our preparations will also change. Next season I will be more serious and will not leave out any chance to fight for the title again,” he asserted.

Mubiru has also dispelled speculation about a new car for the next season.

“I wish to have a new car especially R5 car. And I have the capability to bring one but this Subaru can still compete well and more reliable and maintainable,” he added.

Mubiru was navigated by former NRC co-driver champion Cedric Buzabo for the season finale.

He finished third overall on the NRC standings.
