If regular season performance was anything to go by, there was no way KIU Titans were to wrestle Warriors out of the playoffs.
Warriors had the best normal season record (20-2) while KIU lost to the so-called ‘big teams’ finishing with a 15-7 record that also led to the sacking of head coach Hamza Nyambogo.
Winning Game 1 of the series without playing necessarily well almost meant Warriors had an upper hand of progressing to the finals for the first time since 2012.
However, that did not come to pass as Titans – inspired by skipper Sudi Ulanga – won three in succession to send the two-time champions crashing.
And during the most recent of losses (Game 4), Warriors could not hold on to an 8 points fourth quarter lead as Titans rallied to make their first ever final.
“We had mental lapses especially in the dying minutes of the last two quarters,” Warriors’ coach Ronnie Mutebi told Kawowo Sports.
“The hunger and grit to push beyond the ordinary was lacking. My players were not as hungry for victory as our opponents.
“There other reason is team work. We failed to work as a unit both on offense and defense throughout the entire series yet it’s what brought us this far.”
