- Soana 1-0 Express
Express Football Club woes continued following another heart breaking 1-0 loss to Soana at Kavumba Recreational Stadium in Wakiso on Tuesday.
What pains most is that Soana’s lone strike on the day was scored by Express’ former captain Willy Kavuma inside the first minute of the game.
Soana who had lost 4-0 to champions KCCA at the same ground reacted well to secure the hard fought victory.
Express’ dread locked diminutive forward Daniel ‘Muzeei’ Sserunkuma missed a late second half penalty that would have helped his side to at least return with at least a point.
This was the 8th loss for the Red Eagles this season, the third consecutive defeat suffered under head coach Shafiq Bisaso who took over Douglas Bamwenyana who resigned citing interference in his work.
Express’ midfielder Michael Birungi was the only player booked by referee Uthuman Ssempebwa on the hour mark.
Kavuma was named the man of the match for his outstanding contribution to the game.
Soana thus secured their 4th victory of the season, the third under interim head coach David Katono Mutono that pushed them up the table standing on 11th with 16 points.
Express, the 6 time league winners remain entangled in the relegation zone with just 11 points from 13 matches. The Red Eagles are 14th on the 16 team log.
Given the two weeks break for the COSAFA U-20 Championship and CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Zambia and Kenya respectively, the domestic league will take a two-week break.
Express hosts Vipers at Muteesa II Wankuluku Stadium on the 19th December 2017 when the league resumes.
Meanwhile, Soana will travel to Jinja and face BUL at the Kakindu Stadium on the same day.
