T20 League defending champions Challengers will put their unbeaten run to the test this weekend when they face off with league champions Damani and former league winners Tornado Bee.

Damani has been unfortunate with the weather with their last 2 games washed out by rain but they are as well unbeaten in the T20 league so far. They lie second in the tough Group A and if they can win both games, it can help them finish as group winners giving them an easier quarterfinal.

Challengers have shown both flair and grit in defense of their title. They were prolific in the 100 runs win over Premier but showed a lot of grit when the youthful side of Strikers was coming at them.  They have the perfect T20 squad with good bowlers in Henry Senyondo, Irfan Afridi, David Wabwire, Abraham Alema coupled with hard hitting batsmen in Arthur Kyobe, Hamu Kayondo, Shahzad Kamal and captain Ivan Thawithemwira but sometimes their quality has been their own undoing.

Captain Ivan Thawithemwira says

We’ll approach them just as we did the previous ones. As focused as we possibly can be. Anyone in T20 can win, so we want to stay on our toes.

They will face a hungry Damani side that is looking to finish the group stages as the top side and will therefore not be in charitable mood.

Damani will battle Premier in the morning in a game the former is a clear favorite, Premier lie in 4th and dont face any threat from the teams below them so they should play with the foot off the gas for them.

Damani captain Brian Masaba has lamented the lack of match practise for his team given that their last 2 games have been washed out

Looking to play well as a unit, momentum lost with the washouts last weekend, but hopefully guys will be switched on.

It will be interesting to see how Steve Tikolo and his Damani team mates handle the quality of bowling challengers has got.

Their morning game with Wanderers is more of an audition, as the latter cant make the next round therefore they will be reversing energy for Damani in the afternoon.

This the pick of the weekend games and should be a good one to watch at Lugogo on Sunday afternoon.
