Uganda Cranes head coach Moses Basena has on Saturday morning named a team of 22 players set for the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.

This follows three days of intensive training that culminated into the practice match with the national U-20 team on Friday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (Junior side recovered from a goal down to win 2-1).

The team has three goalkeepers, seven defenders, 8 midfielders and 4 forwards.

Some of the players on the team which won the last CECAFA in Ethiopia are goalies Isma Watenga and Benjamin Ochan, defenders Nico Wakiro Wadada, Joseph Nsubuga, Isaac Muleme, Timothy Awanyi, Shafiq Bakaki and Bernard Muwanga as well as midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba.

Assistant coach Wasswa Bbosa replaces Mathias Lule who will be traveling with the U-20 team to Zambia for the COSAFA U-20 championship where Uganda Hippos is invited as a guest alongside Egypt.

Left Behind:

Left footed midfielder Method Bassey (Mbarara City), Juma Balinya (Police), Steven Mugisa (Police), Seif Batte (Bright Stars) and Onduparaka goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato fail to make the grade.

Sports Club Villa Jogoo defender Ibrahim Kiyemba opted out as he left for greener pastures in South Africa.

His place was therefore taken by Vipers’ Shafiq Bakaki.

The left Kampala on Saturday morning by road via Busia.

Uganda Cranes open up her title defence with Burundi in Monday.
