Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi has completed a permanent switch to English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

The highly rated defender joins on an undisclosed fee from Egyptian giants Al Ahly after impressing at the Hawthorns since his loan deal.

According to reports, the big defender who was instrumental as Egypt qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Uganda Cranes will see him stay at the Hawthorns until 2022.

“This is great news for the club – Ahmed has been absolutely terrific for me since I arrived and I am sure there is even more to come from him in the future,” said boss Alan Pardew.

He is one of the players we can build around on the road ahead. He has a big role to play and it is good for the player and the club to remove any doubts and make the transfer permanent.

Hegazi is one of the few Egyptians plying their trade in the Premiership.

Others are Mohammed Salah of Liverpool and Stoke City’s Ramadhan Morsi.
