TP Mazembe coach Mihayo Kazembe admitted his side weren’t at their level against Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Super Cup.

The Congolese lost 1-0 to the African champions at the Stade Mohamed V on Saturday with seven minutes to go.

Kazembe, who wanted to win the competition as a coach after he won it as a player also thinks the decision from which Wydad scored was non-existent.

“For the goal, I thought there was no foul because the player fell without any contact from my point of view,” he said. “However, the decision rest with the referee and we have to respect that. That is not to make excuses. I congratulate the player who scored from the free-kick,” he added.

I must admit that we were not at our level today. We missed the services of some key players and we were punished for that.

TP Mazembe were defensive for the most part of the game but Kazembe defended his tactics.

We had a tactics in place and we were following it, not that we were defensive. We wanted to attack on the counter whenever we had the ball. Unfortunately, all the balls we recovered, we were not quick and couldn’t take advantage the few times we had possession.

TP Mazembe have previously won the competition three times but have now lost two back to back CAF Super Cup games.
