West Nile Province overcame Tooro 1-0 in a FUFA Drum group D match played before a fully packed gallery that included the King of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president, Moses Magogo at the Buhinga stadium on Sunday.

Gangly forward Alfred Leku, of Express Football Club scored the all important goal in the game marred by slight rains that made the playing surface muddy.

West Nile missed the services of their team captain Vitalis Tabu, Rashid Okocha, Abel Eturude, Feni Moses Ali, Rashid Toha and head coach Abdallah Umar (lost his wife who was knocked dead).

In Abdallah’s absence, Moses Dudu was the head coach for West Nile in the game.

Tooro’s captain Timothy Musinguzi was named man of the match.

In the other matches played on Sunday, Ankole recovered from a goal down to defeat visiting Karamoja 3-1 at the Kyamate play ground in Ntungamo district.

Kodet Ferrer of North East region outfit, Jam FC gave the visitors the lead after 25 minutes.

It was short lived, however, when Clinton Kamugisha’s half volley beat Karamoja goalkeeper Rajab Kajoba for the equalizer on 30 minutes.

Soana pacy winger Siraje Turyamureeba put Ankole in the lead with a penalty in the 53rd minute.

The penalty was awarded by referee Rashid Kimera after Kotido Vipers’ Bernard Ochien illegally felled down the exciting Nyamitybora left winger Joseph Akwandwanaho in the forbidden area.

Rushere Football club play maker Muhammed “Meddie” Matovu wrapped up the scoring business in the 86th minute connecting home off a good cross from the left by second half substitute Sadat Nsubuga.

Matovu was also named man of the match.

Meanwhile, Bunyoro and Bukedi Provinces played to a one all stalemate at Kiryandongo play ground.
