There was violence during and after KCCA FC’s 2-1 victory against Express in the Uganda Premier League at Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Tuesday.

The reigning champions rallied from a goal down to win the match played on a soggy and slippery surface following the early down pour.

The home side took the lead following a penalty well struck by Ayub Kisaliita on 21 minutes.

This penalty arose after right back Fillbert Obenchan felled to the ground Isaac Kisujju before referee Mashood Ssali pointed to the spot.

Ten minutes later, Allan Okello brought the game level with a simple tap in following a teasing corner by Julius Poloto.

Three minutes after the opening half hour, there was a yellow card to Obenchan who tripped down Michael Birungi near the center arc.

Five minutes to half time, a  howler by goalkeeper Tom Ikara nearly benefited Express another goal but Habibu Kavuma was well positioned to block a shot from Birungi.

Ikara was marking his league debut at the club since transferring from Kirinya-Jinja S.S in the January transfer window.

The visitors took the lead through  Jackson Nunda’s 43rd minute sublime finish off Obenchan’s perfectly weighted chip.

All alone, Nunda controlled the right back’s pass on the right, turned and calmly finished past the advancing goalkeeper Godwin Bbule as the Kasasiro lads took command of the game.

There was chaos moments after Nunda’s goal and play was halted for more than 10 minutes after a section of fans threw objects towards the second assistant referee and in the VIP section.

Calmness was restored when police officers were deployed at the affected wing of the stadium.

Upon restart, one minute was played before the mandatory break for the half time.

When the second half kicked, Express introduced gangly forward Alfred Leku for Mubarak Nsubuga as they pushed forward for at least a point at home.

The day’s skipper for Express Omar Hitimana paved way for former captain David Ndihabwe after an hour of action to add numbers up front.

KCCA themselves introduced Paul Musamali for Obenchan as a precautionary amendment since the youngster had been fouled in the opening stanza.

Goalkeeper Ikara collided with Isaac Kisujju and the latter had to be replaced in a nasty goal melee.

The former Kirinya-Jinja S.S goalkeeper was booked with the last quarter of action for time wasting antics.

Express goalkeeper Bbule was alert to save a one against one off Muhammad Shaban in the closing moments of the game.

With virtually the last piece of action, Edgar Bwogi’s delivery was missed by Birungi as the minutes ticked away for KCCA’s win which returned them to second place on 52 points, three points off leaders Vipers.

Police had to fire live bullets and tear gas to disperse rowdy fans who threw stones and other objects towards the match officials and police officers near the Express dressing rooms at Wankulukuku.

Calmness was restored as many sought for water and beer to wash off their faces.

Vipers overcame Proline 3-1 at the Star Times stadium, Lugogo.

Third placed SC Villa Jogoo (50 points) will be in action on Wednesday at home to Kirinya-Jinja S.S in Masaka.

Other Tuesday Results

  • Proline 1-3 Vipers
  • BUL 2-0 Maroons
  • Bright Stars 0-0 UPDF
  • Police 1-0 Soana
