The Africa football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Uganda as the hosts of the AFCON 2020 Beach Soccer Championship.

This was one of the key decisions taken during the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Accra, Ghana on Friday 30th November 2018.

FUFA President Moses Magogo, also a CAF Executive Committee  and chairperson of the Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee also graced the meeting.

Uganda National Beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes will qualify automatically as hosts.


Our efforts in developing the game in Uganda are reaping fruits. It has been a great journey for beach soccer in this country. We have led on all fronts in the region in developing the game. We thank CAF for giving us this opportunity. We shall not disappoint

It is a great opportunity for Uganda to be selected as the next hosts of the AFCON Beach Soccer Finals. We shall be looking forward to hosting a memorable tournament for all the teams that will come to our country

For the past five years, Uganda has been at the fore front of Beach Soccer development in the East and Central African region (CECAFA).

Besides organizing a National Beach Soccer League, Uganda has also been key in the regional championships as Copa East Africa.

The fact that Entebbe and Kampala has befitting five star hotel facilities to host the guests and participants with good security and proper road network, this is another added impetus to aid Uganda successfully host the championship.

Proposed Venues and hotels:

Lido beach, Speenah beach and the nearby Kitubulu Beach Soccer arena are some of the proposed venues to host the 2020 AFCON Beach Soccer tournament.

Entebbe Municipality is blessed by a number of hotel amenities, many of which meet the five star requirement as Protea Hotel, Imperial Resort, Imperial Botanical, Anderita, Windsor Lake Victoria Hotel among others.

Security:

As home to Uganda’s only international Airport and the Presidential palace – Entebbe State House, Entebbe is best suited to host such an international event given the adequate security in place.

Uganda Sand Cranes will play at AFCON 2020 as hosts

The beach soccer championship in 2020 will be the 4th edition of the AFCON Beach Soccer finals.

This year’s edition will be hosted by Egypt.
