The fight for the 2019 National Rally Championship heads to Masaka for the third round this weekend.
The event has attracted over 35 crews with all signs of a tight contention for championship points.
The expected competition will obviously attract a horde of fans flocking Masaka.
That, to the rally organisers, will be a major concern as they intensify safety measures for the rally.
“We know very well all eyes are on the event because of safety concerns. But we have done enough deployment from police and village marshals.
“For safety at the super special stage, we have widened the radius of the fence. Incase a car veers off, it’s safe enough for the fans.
“We have also moved the fly finish far behind to get enough braking distance as opposed to last time,” said Jared Kalera, the event Clerk of the Course (COC).

Jared further explains safety on the final day which will run on public roads.
“Safety in the routes is certain in that most of the villages are uninhibited, with low population save Sunday’s opening stage.
“However, we are using village marshals who have been trained by the safety team. We believe they will be of great help to ensure safety in the stages,” he added.
Jared also believes the event will produce a good battle for drivers.
“It’s going to be a fast rally because the roads are so smooth. It’s raining though, so they need to be cautious.
“The competition will be high with some drivers who want to get at par following disappointments from the previous event.”
