Seven-time Women’s National Basketball League champions UCU Lady Canons have a new rival. With KCCA Leopards slowly fading out, up has come JKL Lady Dolphins.

JKL’s sweep of UCU in last year’s finals only indicated the university side has a got a new challenger, and the 76-67 win in the first round of this season affirmed it.

The two sides meet again tonight at YMCA in what promises to be a pulsating encounter as the second half of the regular season starts.

Lady Dolphins will be without Jane Asinde who went to the USA but Moreen Atulinda and Muhayimina Namuwaya will be tasked to fill her void in the meantime.

The Lady Canons were short on personnel in the first meeting but with Sarah Ageno and Rhoda Naggita available for the game, Hope Akello and Flavia Oketcho who powered JKL to the victory will have a little more work on their hands.

Head coach Henry Malinga will expect more from his star player Jamila Nansikombi who was limited to 7 points in April and Ritah Imanishimwe needs to shoot better if JKL is to complete the double over their rivals.

UCU, on the other hand, needs to take care of the ball especially their primary ball handlers Naggita and Brenda Kayaga as Lady Dolphins could punish every turnover at the top.
