Tanzania league champions Simba SC have opted to withdraw from the forthcoming 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup citing it will interfere with their pre-season preparations.
The announcement comes at a time 1978 winners KCCA confirm they will represent Uganda at the tournament due in Rwanda in July.
“Simba SC would like to inform stakeholders as well as our fans that the club will not be participating in the upcoming CECAFA Kagame Cup,” the club said in a statement.
“The main reason why we will not be taking part in the tournament is the short period of time we will have for pre-season ahead of the start of the next season,” the statement continued.
For KCCA, the communiqué to confirm presence was signed by Anisha Muhoozi, the club CEO.
“We wish to confirm that KCCA Football Club will represent Uganda at the CECAFA – Kagame Cup 2019,” KCCA FC Chief Executive Officer Anisha Muhoozi told the club’s official website www.kccafc.co.ug.
Tanzania’s Azam are the defending champions but will have a tough battle not only against KCCA but guest teams from Zambia (Zesco United) and DR Congo (DC Motema Pembe).
