Tanzania side Young Africans popularly known as Yanga have turned down the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup invitation.
The club had been invited to take part in the annual club competition after rivals Simba opted not to take part.
In a letter to the CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye, Yanga revealed they don’t have a squad to feature in the tournament as well as the technical team which is partly with the Taifa Stars at Afcon.
“Yanga SC would like to inform you (CECAFA) that we will not be able to participate in the upcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup of 2019 due to the following reasons,” read part of the letter.
The club adds that other playing staff members are off for a pre-season break.
Uganda’s KCCA will be joined by Kenya’s Gor Mahia and guest teams DC Motema Pembe (DRC) and Zesco United (Zambia) as well as Rwanda’s Rayon Sport among others.
The tournament will be hosted in Kigali, Rwanda starting mid-July and coincides with the AFCON finals in Egypt.
