The 2019 National Sevens title is between two sides and will go down the wire if the opening three legs are anything to go by.

The third stop of the series, Rujumba Sevens, at King’s Park in Bweyogerere confirmed that the battle is between Kobs and Pirates.

Like it was the case during the previous two circuits, both sides eased through their respective groups

Kobs, winners of the opening leg at Kyadondo, edged hosts Pirates, winners of the second leg in Masaka, 15-14, to reclaim the summit of the series standings.

Nobert Okeny crossed twice and Al Hajji Manano scored the other try for Kobs while Isaac Rujjumba and Desire Ayera scored for Pirates.

It was Pirates that went ahead first through Rujumba who slipped through Kobs defense and William Nkore added the twos.

Pius Ogena then benefited from a turnover, took a few strides before finding Okeny who raced to cross the try line but Edgar Sseruwagi could not find the target with his boot.

Manano put Kobs into a halftime lead but after the break, the Sea Robbers pressure was rewarded when Ayera ran through with Magomu converting for a 14-10 lead.

However, as time expired, Okeny ran through for what proved to be the winning try that took Kobs to the top of the standings 63 points, three clear of their rivals.
