- Kenya 44-13 Uganda
After four years without action, the Women’s Elgon Cup returned this afternoon at Mamboleo Showgrounds in Kisumu.
And it was the hosts, as expected, that dominated and won the game with ease as the visitors quickly ran out of steam.
Uganda had some control in the opening ten minutes, keeping the Lionesses on the back foot but once team captain Winnie Atyang was sent to the sinners in the 16th minute of the game, hell broke loose and Kenya ran in three tries before her return.
Grace Adhiambo went over the chalk in the 18th minute but Irene Otieno missed the conversion.
Philadelphia Orlando scored her first try of the game three minutes later under posts and, this time, Otieno converted for a 12-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Orlando powered through at the corner before Celestine Masinde extended the lead to 22-00 after a full length run from the Lionesses.
A clean pair of heels from Janet Akello saw her to extend the lead to 27-00.
After the break, it was Kenya on the attack throughout as the Ugandans crossed the centerline mostly at restarts.
Orlando completed her hattrick early in the half after running around Lady Cranes defense.
Sophie Ayieta shortly scored under the posts and converted for 39-00.
Charlotte Mudoola put Uganda on board through a penalty before Stella Wafula scored from a turnover to extend the lead to 44-03.
Mudoola then slipped through Uganda’s first try of the game and Atyang powered over for the second.
