Uganda Premier League 2020-21 (Match Day 14): Saturday, March 13, 2021

  • URA 2-1 Vipers

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club humbled the reigning Uganda Premier League champions Vipers 2-1 on match day 14 of the top tier division on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Arena of Visions play ground, Ndejje University.

URA captain Shafik Kuchi Kagimu and forward Steven Desse Mukwala scored the goals for Sam Ssimbwa’s coached side on the early kick off under scorching sunshine.

Vipers’ consolation was a headed goal by Congolese striker Ceaser Manzoki.

Kagimu opened the scores towards the end of the first  half with a sublime finish past Burundian goalkeeper Fabian Mutombora in the 38th minute as the home side led 1-0 going to the mandatory half time recess.

Vipers reacted with a double change five minutes upon restart of play for the final 45 minutes.

Midfielder David Bagoole and Allan Kayiwa paved way for Congolese towering forward Ceaser Manzoki and Paul Mucureezi respectively.

The tax collectors doubled their lead on the hour mark through Mukwala, a former Vipers’ player who spent last season on loan at Maroons.

Moments after Mukwala’s goal, the home team themselves called for a double change.

Winger Michael Birungi took over Davis Ssali’s place and towering midfielder Ivan Sserubiri paved way for the pint sized but immensely gifted Moses Sseruyidde.

AFCON U-20 silver medalist Richard Basangwa replaced Bobosi Byaruhanga with 21 minutes to play and minutes later Joseph Dhata was rested for Abdul Karim Watambala.

Substitute Manzoki headed home the visitors’ consolation to create a tense ending to the game.

URA left back Brian Majwega got cautioned by FIFA Referee William Oloya with five minutes to play and Basangwa followed suit.

The tax collectors held on a nervy ending to record yet another memorable victory over Vipers as they are now top of the 16 team table standings with one round to climax the first set of games in the 2020-21 season.

URA has 33 points from 14 matches, three points ahead of second placed Vipers.

This was the second loss away for Vipers after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Mbarara City at the Kakyeka Stadium last Saturday in yet another lunch-time duel.

Express has the opportunity to over take Vipers in second place should they win at home over visiting Kyetume later on Saturday.
