Mbarara City FC played their 100th game in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday at Kakyeka Stadium.

The game against BUL FC ended in a one-all draw with Swalik Ssegujja scoring the Ankole Lions while Peter Oketch got the equalizer for the visitors.

Coincidentally this was the first game for Mbarara City FC in the league and ended goalless.

Brief History

The Club was founded in 2010, first as Citizens FC with affiliation to Citizens High School in Mbarara. The team played in the Western Uganda regional league starting from 2010 to 2014. In 2014, the Ankole Lions won the Western Uganda Regional League and got promoted to the FUFA Big League. In July 2016, Citizens FC was renamed Mbarara City FC, mainly to get a fan base among the people of Mbarara and the whole of Western Uganda.

On 5th May 2017, Mbarara City FC clinched promotion to the Uganda Premier League after overcoming Synergy FC at Phillip Omondi Stadium.

Mbarara City’s first game came on 12th September 2017 at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja against BUL FC. The game ended in a barren stalemate.
