Joseph Aredo will make his return to the Uganda Men’s Sevens when the squad fly out of the country for the Emirates Invitational 7s at the end of this month. His last appearance was in South Africa in December 2019 at the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Cup that doubled as the Olympic Games Qualifier.

The twelve-man travelling squad was unveiled on Thursday afternoon, two days after the official announcement of the event in Dubai was made.

The Travelling Squad:

  • Players (club): Ian Munyani (Kobs), Ocen Levis (Buffaloes), Desire Ayera (Pirates), Solomon Okia (Pirates), Massanganzira Isaac (Pirates), Okorach Michael (Heathens), Nobert Okeny (Heathens), Kasito Adrian (Kobs), Aaron Ofoyrwoth (Heathens), Joseph Aredo (Kobs), Pius Ogena (Kobs), Wokorach Philip (A.S.B.C. Rugby – France).
  • Technical team (role): Tolbert Onyango (head coach), Samuel Asiimwe (Physio), Michael Wandera (Team Manager).

Aredo is the only change in coach Tolbert Onyango’s squad that last played during the Challenger Series in South America in February last year. According to this list, Aredo is in the place of youngster William Nkore who has impressed with every chance he gets in the national team jersey.

Nkore’s teammates at Pirates, Alex Aturinda and Kelvin Balagadde, continue to wait for their opportunity to represent the nation. The other players that will not be travelling with the squad are Kobs’ Byron Oketayot and James Odongo.

  • Participating teams: Japan, Canada, Kenya, Uganda, Spain, France, Argentina, Chile.

Eight men’s teams will participate in the event that will be held at the iconic The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. At the event, Uganda will take part in high-intensity training sessions and two competitive tournaments on the weekends of April 2-3 and April 8-9.
