Uganda She Cranes have registered their second win in the Spar Challenge Tri-Nations series at the Cape Town International Convention Center.
The She Cranes had to overcome a slow start to beat the Namibia Desert Jewels 59-30 in the match played on Sunday morning.
Namibia controlled the early stages of the opening quarter, playing closer with short passes but She Cranes patiently crawled back with the period ending with nine goals apiece.
The She Cranes raised the tempo of the game in the second quarter and put a lot of pressure on Namibia’s centre passes and attack forcing them to opt for long passes that were easily deflected or intercepted by the swarming defense.
Uganda’s shooters Shadiah Nassanga and Irene Eyaru who had a slow first quarter then came to life. The team improved on their transition from defense to attack and by the end of the third quarter, the She Cranes had a 21-goal (43-22) cushion.
Head coach Rashid Mubiru rested Anisha Muhameed and moved Shaffie Nalwanja to Goalkeeper with Privas Kayeny going to Wing Defense.
Namibia were out of steam in the fourth quarter and She Cranes coasted to a 29-goal win.
The She Cranes return to action later today with their second game against South Africa at 7pm.
Uganda’s Starting 7: Shadiah Nassanga (GS), Irene Eyaru (GA), Sarah Nakiyunga (WA), Stella Oyella (C), Shaffie Nalwanja (WD), Joan Nampungu (GD), Anisha Muhameed Nakate (GK)
