Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Masinde Onyango has sought for legal action against two betting firms.

Onyango through Muwema & Co. Advocates and Solicitors has asked Paragon Bet and Melbet to pay for damages in what is termed as unauthorized use of the player’s images.

“Our Client’s attention was recently drawn to advertisements carried by both Paragon Bet and Melbet on their social media handles to promote their products for Uganda Cranes games against Burkina Faso and Malawi which bore his images,” reads part of the letter that was written to the aforementioned betting companies.

“The unauthorized use of our client’s image is a deliberate violation of his image rights for which we shall hold liable, especially given the fact our client is signed up as an ambassador to another entity which is in the same business,” the letter further states.

The gangly shot stopper was in February this year named the brand ambassador of a sports betting company in Uganda and thus his images shouldn’t appear as promotion brand for other direct competitors.

Through Muwema & Co. Advocates and Solicitors Onyango who plies his trade at Mamelodi Sundowns is South Africa demands that Paragon Bet and Melbet pay UGX 50M as compensation for violation of image rights.

“The purpose of this letter therefore, is to demand that you desist from any further usage of our Client’s images to promote your products and to further demand that you each pay our Client UGX 50M as compensation for violation of image rights.”
