Hamza Khawa, Uganda Rowing Federation President

Kahwa has emphasized the growth of Rowing sport from the grassroots with a key basis on development of structures, equipment (ergometers and rowing boats), national competitions as well as qualification of more athletes to the Olympics.

I am humbled to have returned as the president of Uganda Rowing Federation (URF). My agenda for the next four years in office will be to strengthen the structures of the federation and clubs, secure more equipment (ergometers and boats), have regular competitions and make sure more rowers qualify for the Olympics with a target of four to five athletes.

Kahwa is however tasked by a mountain task to bring sanity to this water sport that has had break away factions, one of which had created their own executive.

Another challenge is the activeness of the existing clubs as regular regattas are needed as a lot needs to the implemented from the strategic planning symposium of 2017 that convened at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

According to Khaawa, there are a couple of existing rowing clubs in the country as Wellness, Cranes, Lake Shore, Green Belt, Defenders, Nalubaale, Maroons, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Express.
