Uganda Rowing Federation (URF) has ushered into power a new leadership.
Hamza Kahwa has returned as the president for another four term effective 2021 to 2025.
This is Kahwa´s third term in office since he was first elected (unopposed) on 14th May 2013 at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala.
This happened at during the body´s assembly sitting at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) held on Saturday, April 10, 2021.
Kahwa is deputized by Charles Batambuze as vice president (technical) and Ivan Odongo as the vice president (administration).
Anthony Anywar is the general secretary and Bryan Nakibinge as the treasurer.
The organizing secretary is Juliet Asiimwe whilst the publicity secretary is Kenneth Opendun.
The tranquil assembly was presided over by Benson Ogwang Echonga as returning officer and two officials from the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and National Council of Sports (NCS) as supervisors.
Ivan Niwamanya represented the National Council of Sports whilst Uganda Olympic Committee was ably represented by the second vice president, also the president of Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) Moses Mwase.
The Technical Director remains Rodrick Muhumuza although he could not attend the assembly.
Kahwa has emphasized the growth of Rowing sport from the grassroots with a key basis on development of structures, equipment (ergometers and rowing boats), national competitions as well as qualification of more athletes to the Olympics.
I am humbled to have returned as the president of Uganda Rowing Federation (URF). My agenda for the next four years in office will be to strengthen the structures of the federation and clubs, secure more equipment (ergometers and boats), have regular competitions and make sure more rowers qualify for the Olympics with a target of four to five athletes.Hamzah Kahwa, President Uganda Rowing Federation (URF)
Kahwa is however tasked by a mountain task to bring sanity to this water sport that has had break away factions, one of which had created their own executive.
Another challenge is the activeness of the existing clubs as regular regattas are needed as a lot needs to the implemented from the strategic planning symposium of 2017 that convened at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
According to Khaawa, there are a couple of existing rowing clubs in the country as Wellness, Cranes, Lake Shore, Green Belt, Defenders, Nalubaale, Maroons, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Express.
