Newly crowned Uganda Premier League champions Express Football Club have completed the signing of proven, tried, and tested goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
Mutakubwa agreed on terms with the Wankulukuku based entity and signed a two-year contract on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
The nitty-gritty of the contract could not be revealed to the public due to contractual clauses embedded therein as regards the settlement dues that entail the sign-on fees, salaries, bonuses, and other allowances.
The goalkeeper who was part of the Uganda Cranes team at the 2021 CHAN tournament in Cameroon had run out of contract at relegated entity Kyetume Football Club.
Mutakubwa joins Express at a crucial timing when the club is preparing for the CAF Champions League.
He reunites with head coach Wasswa Bbosa with whom they had served at Soana (now Tooro United).
The former Jinja Secondary School and Tooro United shot-stopper boosts the goalkeeping department that already has Uganda U-20 goalkeeper Denis Otim, Chrispus Kusiima, and last season’s best goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga.
Muwanga’s contract expired at the end of the season and the club is reportedly convincing him to renew.
Moments after the national lockdown is lifted, the Red Eagles are expected to embark on early preparations for the CAF Champions League and the 2021 – 2022 Uganda Premier League season.
