A total of 236 golfers are expected to grace the fair-ways and greens of the lavish lake side Entebbe Club course on Saturday as the 6th edition of the Singleton Golf Match play match challenge swings off.

The early bird cluster of golfers will tee off as early as 7 AM from the first and tenth tee-boxes.

With a break between 9:30 AM to 11:50 AM, the golfers teeing off will resume business until 1:50 PM.

The course at Entebbe is in the best shape ever. We shall follow all the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to the dot. The reception will be good and shall as usual have a fantastic 19th hole experience that Entebbe club is famed for in respect for the theme; Vegas night.

The format of play for the qualification round is stroke play but the subsequent round shall be based on the medal-four ball better ball format.

In some of the games that are eagerly awaited, the reigning Uganda Amateur open champion Joseph Cwinyaai will swing off at 7 AM on the 10th tee alongside Thomas Kato, Sean Kinsella and Henry Rugamba.

Former USPA president and The Observer sports journalist Mark Namanya tees off on the first tee at 9 AM alongside Michael Monne, Jacob Byamukama and Oscar Ssemawere.

These will be followed by Yoweri Ndinga, Robert Waweru, Herbert Opolot and John Kato.

Uganda Golf Union President Moses Matsiko comes in at 9:20 AM with the trio of Denis Kahindi, Fred Kimbugwe and Ronald Osekeny.

Former Union president and the state current Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka will tee off at 11:50 AM on the 10th tee with Edward Kabuchu, Innocent Kihika and David Kateregga.

At 11:50 PM, it will be John Basabose, Marvin Kagoro, Ali Juuko and Edgar Muzahura on the tenth tee among other players in action.

The 128 players will be drawn in 64 pairs that will play the first round on 12th February 2022.

As is the tradition, the seven- month long challenge will be held in a series of knock-out tournaments that will be held every second Saturday of the month.

The winning pairs from every month will advance to the finale in July 2022.

Innocent Nahabwe and Adoch Luwum were the last winners of this championship in 2020.

The season six winning pair will be rewarded with a fully-paid trip to a major golfing tournament slated for January 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Other partners of the Singleton Challenge include NCBA, DSTV and Riders Lounge Entebbe.
