Head coach Tolbert Onyango has said to Kawowo Sports that the squad will take some days off before resuming training for two weeks. The team will then fly out to Stellenbosch, South Africa for the second residential training camp that will last two weeks.

“The first camp has come to an end. We are going to take a couple of days off and then we’ve got two weeks of training in-country. (We will) then go for another camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa for two weeks. Thereafter, we’ll have two months before we play our first tournament, the Rugby Africa (Men’s Sevens) Cup which will be hosted here in Uganda,” Onyango said.

The Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens will be held from April 23-24 in Kampala City with fourteen nations expected to take part.

Onyango also expressed his appreciation to Philip Snyman and Johan Van Wyk who flew in from the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport in South Africa to provide specialized support to his technical bench.

“We are glad to have had Phil (Snyman) and Johan (Van Wyk) among us to take us through what has been a very informative camp. We have learnt a lot, certainly from the coaching perspective and also from the players’ end,” Onyango said.

He added that both the on-field and off-field staff will work to improve on the areas they have pinpointed from this camp and the past months.

The thirteen players who took part in this training camp can now take a well-deserved rest, or join their respective clubs for matchday five of the Nile Special Rugby Premier League.
