Uganda U-17 midfielder Shafik Magogo has joined Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Football Club.

The 17-year-old midfielder joined as a free agent having been attached to the Edgars Youth Team.

With less than six months to his 18th birthday, Magogo was accorded a provisional contract signed by his parents who also penned a two-year employment contract.

For starters, he is a biological son to the current president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Moses Magogo who is also a CAF Executive Committee Member as well as the Area Member of Parliament for Budiope East.

He has also been playing for Synergy in the Futsal National League where the UPDF head coach Brian Ssenyondo is also the boss.

He won the CECAFA U-17 tournament where also team Uganda qualified for the continental championship in Morocco although the tournament was never played because of the Coronavirus pandemic despite the team traveling to the North African country.

Magogo is among the new players recruited by the army-funded club in the January 2022 transfer window.

The other January signings include midfielder Andrew Kawooya (on loan from Kampala Capital City Authority until the end of the season).

Vastly experienced left winger Robert Omunuk returned to the club after some years away and left full back Rogers Adriko was also signed.

UPDF qualified to the Uganda Cup Round of 32 after ejecting Regional League side Soroti 3-0.

The Bombo based side completed the first half of the 2021-2022 Uganda Premier League in the 9th position on the 16 team log with 19 points from the 15 matches.
