After close to two years without any action because of the COVID-19 pandemic, professional boxing is back on the sporting spheres of Uganda’s social calendar.
Boxing die-hards will witness mouth-watering action on Valentines’ Day (14th February 2022) at Land Star Hotel in Makindye, Lukuli road in Kampala.
A number of bouts have been lined up as organized by the Uganda Boxing Promotion in conjunction with Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC).

UBP director Abbey Mugayi alongside Maureen Mulangira graced the weigh-in event.
The main fight will be in the super feather weight catergory (59 Kg) as Frank Kiwalabye takes on Muhamed Kasaga.

The two boxers, alongside the others on the undercard officially weighed-in on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Land Star Hotel, the venue of the event.
Kiwalabye weighed 58.1 Kg, lighter than Kasaga (63.2 kg).
“I will floor him down because I am very experienced and have trained well for this bout. I cannot disappoint my fans on the night. I am more than ready” Kiwalabye vowed.
His counterpart Kasaga promised to stage a gallant fight, using the raw energy to bring down the “veteran”.
“I am not intimidated by his experience. In fact, he is old and I will use this to prove to him that he is outdated” Kasaga answered back.
Kiwalabye and Kasaga bout is slated to last 10 rounds, each of three minutes with a two-minute break.


Undercards:
A number of undercard fights are lined up to spice the evening on the day reserved to celebrate the lovers world-over.
Kenny “Da Mexico” Lukyamuzi takes on Jinja’s Frank Ngobi in the middle weight catergory (72 Kg) for 8 rounds.
Lukyamuzi weighed 76 Kgs to Ngobi’s 70.2 Kg.




The super middle weight bout (76 kg) will be between Kamada Ntege and Ntambi for 6 rounds.
Ntege weighed 74.8 kgs whilst Ntambi has 75.2 kg.

Sowali Ssentongo and Ssenyonjo will fight in the feather weight (57 kg) for 6 rounds.
Ssentongo weighed 59.1 kg and Ssenyonjo had 58.9 kg.
In the light welter weight (63.5 kg), Abasi Sseguya shall battle Ibra Mubiru during the 4 round’s bout.
During the weigh-in, Sseguya had 69.3 kg and Mubiru weighed heavier on 69.9 kgs.
UPBC president Salim Uhuru who graced the weigh-in event expressed delight upon the return of professional boxing after a two-year limbo due to COVID-19.

He thus vowed to offer all the support required in the promotion of the sport in the country.
“I am happy that professional boxing and the rest of the sports disciplines return after two years without competitions due to COVID-19. As UPBC, we shall continue to offer all the necessary support possible” Uhuru revealed.
Gates open as early as 3 PM and action is expected to end late night.
