Aziz Damani was crowned champion of the 2022 National Women’s League after managing to win nine of their ten season games.
Aziz Damani clinched the title before the final weekend and only needed both wins against Olila Cricket Club to make sure they win the title unbeaten.
On the final weekend with the title wrapped up the fixture between Wanderers and Soroti Challengers was most anticipated beacuse it was the battle for second. Both sides were tied on the same number of points and only separated by net run rate with Wanderers ahead of Soroti Challengers.
At Lugogo, Olila Cricket Cranes ended the Aziz Damani unbeaten run in the morning game defeating them by 3 runs, a big victory for the youthful side against a very strong line-up. The champions regrouped in the afternoon and were able to win by 11 runs. They finished the season with nine wins out of 10 games.
At Kyambogo, Wanderers and Soroti Challengers played out a thriller in the morning game as both sides couldn’t be separated with identical scores. The match needed two super overs to get a winner with Soroti Challengers prevailing in the morning game. That win momentarily took Soroti Challengers into second place.
In the afternoon game, Wanderers prevailed by four wickets chasing down a competitive total of 98 and claiming the second position. The win for Wanderers meant they also collected 500k to go with a trophy.
Aziz Damani was a class above everyone in 2022 despite missing some key players who are serving a suspension due to indiscipline. Wanderers pushed them close in the beginning but fell along the way and second is the best place they could finish.
Soroti Challengers the usual bridesmaids to Damani were not solid enough as they finished behind Wanderers.
Tornado Bee is the only side unable to win a game the whole campaign and finished bottom of the six-team table. Pioneer finished fifth while Olila Cricket Club finished fourth.
Janet Mbabazi took home the MVP and Best Bowler awards for her efforts with Soroti Challengers, Gloria Obukor of Aziz Damani was the Best Batter, and Christine Anayo of Soroti Challengers was the Best Fielder while Maria Nyende Kagoya won the Best Wicketkeeper award.
