Overview:
There are six clubs in the main super league and seven in the corporate family during the 2023 Uganda Badminton League that will last for at least six months.

Match Day 1 Results:

- Victoria University Wasps 3-2 Kampala Badminton Club (KBC) A
It was excitement as the 2023 Uganda Badminton League officially shuttled off at the MTN Indoor Arena in Kampala city on Saturday, 28th January.
Badminton enthusiasts mingled together to shed a sweat, share light moments and celebrate as match day one get underway.
The different teams, smartly clad in befitting attires competed as a milestone was attained in a very long time.

Ndejje University, Mbogo High Warriors, Victoria University Wasps were some of the teams that commenced match day one with convincing victories.
Victoria University Wasps smiled past Kampala Badminton Club (KBC) 3-2.
Argustus Owinyi used 49 minutes to edge Expedito Emuddu 3-0 (26-28 21-11 21-15).
Kimberly lost to Mohammed Fadilah Shamikah 2-0 in just 10 minutes (11-21, 8-21).


Denis Onyango recovered a set lost to overcome Sempiri 2-1 (15-21 21-13 21-15).
Catherine and Jovia Athieno beat Kimberly and Christine Kadol in the doubles 2-0 (21-4 21-11).

Meanwhile, Omara and Expedito Emuddu lost 0-2 to Catherine and Shamikah (16-21 16-21).
Ndejje University mauled Kampala Badminton Club (KBC) 5-0
Lubega Muzafaru overcame Kusal Guna 2-1 (16-21 21-12 21-13) during a duel that lasted for 18 minutes.


Natasha Rajab used 11 minutes to edge Shini Sudhar 2-0 (21-13 21-10).
Thomas Katerega beat Abubakar Babu 2-1 (21-13 15-21 21-14) in 25 minutes.
Husna Kobugabe smiled past Chahana 2-0 in 14 minutes (21-07 21-02)
Mbogo High Warriors narrowly won 3-2 over CFK Patriots Badminton Club.
Kenneth Mwambu was triumphant over Ismail Mungufeni 2-0 (21-17 21-09).
Gladys Mbabazi won 2-0 over Nazifah Nakiyemba (21-20, 21-10).

The Kenneth Mwambu versus Musa Abed Bukenya contest ended 2-0 in favour of the former (21-16 21-15).
In the doubles, Nakiyemba and Mbabazi lost 2-0 to Naluwooza and Kuluthum Nalumansi (14-21 18-21).
Annet Nakamya, the president of Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) explained that this league has categories to accommodate for all clusters of people; the school going players, clubs and corporates.

She elucidated that this league will see more competitiveness and the sport will be played throughout the year.
We are happy to have started the 2023 Uganda Badminton League. The objectives of this league is to see development, the players from schools will be getting into elite stage and then for Corporate, is basically for the financial support that we get from this groups and also the continuity of the people who used to play the game and you are going to see many of them including me. The other objective is the continuous play of badminton throughout the year, so we are hoping that we give these players opportunity to play and also to help us to develop the game.

The Uganda Badminton League will have singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. In case of a draw, each side will take a point.

Players expressed delight upon the start of the league, transforming their regular exercises into competition, which will further develop them.
“It is one thing to train and it is another to compete. Thanks to the Uganda Badminton League, we shall have a competitive game” Kenneth Mwambu of Mbogo Warriors notes.
17-year-old Mohammed Fadilah Shamikah acknowledges the resourcefulness of the league.
“I am very happy that we have started a league. This will give us more game time and improve as players” Fadilah revealed.
There are 6 clubs in the main super league and 7 in the corporate setting.
This league will last for atleast six months
