Vipers Sports Club secured a slot into the next round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging past Bujumbura United.

In the round of 64 game played at Kibanjwa Primary School Playground on Tuesday, the Venoms needed spot kicks to overcome the resilient Hoima-based outfit.

Normal time ended goalless but the two-time Champions eventually navigated through the penalty shootout, winning 4-1.

The game was the first for new coach Bianchi Beto and Ivorian striker Ahmed Desire Tety.

Despite dominating proceedings, Vipers failed to find the breakthrough in normal time and thus the game had to be decided on kicks from the spot.

Bright Anukani, Ashiraf Mandela, Disan Galiwango and Tety all converted their kicks.

On the hand, goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora saved once and the home side missed another thus handing Vipers a 4-1 win.

Vipers SC who were losing finalists last year join holders BUL FC, Ndejje University FC, Pajule Lions, Kitara FC, Admin FC, Blue Stars and Junior Eagles as the other teams that have already qualified for the Round of 32.
