Overview:
Uganda's duo of Wazil Jagwe (U-12) and Musa Bogere (U-18) were named as the most valuable players in the Baseball qualifiers held in Kenya.
Uganda U-12 and U-18 national Baseball teams have qualified to the Baseball World Cups.
This happened after successful qualifiers held at Gilgil in Nakuru county in Kenya (24th to 29th January 2023).
In the U-12 event, Uganda beat Kenya (11-2 and 5-1) and Tanzania (18-1 and 13-2).
Kenya finished second with two wins against Tanzania, 8-3 and 12-5.
Uganda’s Jagwe Wazil earned MVP honours.
The WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup will take place between 28 July to 6 August 2023 at Tainan’s Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadium in Chinese Taipei.
The tournament will have 12 teams from their respective continental championships or through a wild card.
Uganda is Africa’s only representative. America (North and Latin) are four countries, Asia (3), Europe (2): Czechia and Germany, Oceania (1) and one wild card.
U-18:
Currently positioned 41st in the whole world, Uganda beat Kenya (54th in the world) during a best of five play-offs, winning 24-01, 25-01 and 32-01.
Uganda’s Musa Bogere was outstanding and earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade in a tournament organized by the Baseball Federation of Kenya and the Nakuru county Government.
Uganda became the 8th country to qualify for the XXI U-18 Baseball World Cup.
Spain and Netherlands qualified through the U-18 European championships.
Defending champions United States of America (USA), Panama, Mexico and Venezuela made the grade through the America qualification.
Australia won the Oceania qualifier.
