Kampala Queens had to come from a goal down to overcome resilient Asubo Gafford Ladies on Sunday and extend their lead at the top in the FUFA Women Super League.

In the game played at Kampala Quality Playground, Zaitun Namaganda gave the hosts a deserved lead midway through the first half.

However, Elizabeth Nakigozi levelled matters with a good strike inside the area at the stroke of halftime.

After recess, coach Hamza Lutalo made changes and Kampala Queens were dominant, eventually claiming all three points.

Three minutes into the second half, Margaret Kunihira fired home before second half substitute Sophia Nakiyingi put the icing on the cake.

Unlike the first round where Asubo Gafford Ladies struggled, their performance today showed a much improved side.

The addition of players like Fatuma Nakasumba, Nakitto Nabiira, Sarah Nakuya and Namaganda posed threat to Kampala Queens.

On the other hand, the visitors were without some of the regular starters including Shamira Nalugya and Zaina Namuleme.

In a bid to make some rotations, goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro was rested with Primah Mugidde starting.

Rukia Namubiru also started on bench with Asia Nakibuuka and Patricia Akiror playing at the heart of defence.

In the early stages, Kampala Queens looked disjointed and failed to break down a resilient Asubo Gafford Ladies side.

The breakthrough came for the hosts with Namaganda firing home at the run of play.

Nakigozi who was off colour on the day found her moment towards the end of the first half after Gafford failed to clear the ball.

Namubiru and Lillian Mutuuzo were introduced at the start of the second half and indeed their arrival made a shift in the proceedings.

The visitors went into the lead in the 49th minute when Kunihira beat defenders for pace to complete a move ignited by Hasifah Nassuna.

Nakiyingi who replaced Kunihira paid off the coach’s faith by firing home the third.

The win takes Kampala Queens to 30 points in 10 games while Asubo Gafford Ladies remain bottom of the log on 4 points.
