Jinja Hippos are yet to win at home this season. They have played and lost by 25-22 to Impis and by 17-08 to Black Pirates at the Damwaters Rugby Club, and currently lie seventh on the table. A position which they, and most of everybody else, did not expect at this point. By their standard, it has been a poor start.

And similarly, for Heathens too. The current holders lost away to Pirates 24-18 and despite Aaron Ofoyrwoth’s clutch forty-metre drop goal in their 17-15 victory over Kobs, they were far from convincing.

There is mutual cause for concern in both camps. For Hippos, it is the risk of losing their “best of the rest” tag that is about to be snatched by an unlikely Makerere Impis. For Heathens, their perennial challengers Kobs and Pirates appear to have got one on them early on.

But it is not too late to rescue the season for both Hippos and Heathens. This is only the fifth of a non-stop eighteen-round season.
