Overview:

The victors from the CECAFA tournament will represent CECAFA region at the maiden African Schools Football Championship is slated to take place April 7-9, 2023 in Morocco.

Amus College School, Bukedea district’s academic and sports giants depart for the Pan Africa schools (CECAFA Zone) championship in Dar-es-salaam city, Tanzania with high expectations.

A delegation of 26 people left Entebbe International Airport on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 aboard Kenya Airways.

This followed an official flag off by the Rt. Hon Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among in Kampala in the morning as she urged them to work hard and avoid “ill” vices as Homo-sexuality.

The team had a luncheon at Flight Motel in Kitoro, Entebbe Municipality (Division B) moments before checking in at the Entebbe International Airport.

The team will take part in the CECAFA Zone qualification tournament (17th to 19th February 2023) as they seek to become the first Ugandan school to play at the inaugural Africa Schools Football Championship due in Morocco later this year.

The games in Dar-es-salaam will be hosted at the Azam Sports complex in Chamazi.

Team captain Shafiga Tamisi is ready to lead the rest of the gallant troops as they seek that crucial ticket to the continental event.

In an interview with the media, the skipper lauded the collective effort of teammates, the school management led by the director, coaches, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), support staff, media, Kachumbali community and fans at large.

“I wish to thank my fellow players for the teamwork effort, our director, all team officials, coaches and support for the collective effort. I also thank FUFA, the Speaker of Parliament, media, the people of Kachumbali and our fans at large. We are determined to work tirelessly and represent the mighty Amus College School, Bukedea and Uganda at large” Tamisi who was MVP in the Uganda qualification games revealed.

Head coach Frank “Video” Anyau has realistic target at this championsip as the trophy.

“We have trained well and had several build-up matches as well. We have no excuses but to go out and fight our hearts out. The ultimate target is to win the championship” Anyau disclosed.

The Games master Calvin Opio was full of praise for the school management for fronting sports vis-à-vis education on their circularum.

“Amus College School has set the bar high in education and sports. We are grateful for the school management for this opportunity. We shall continue to groom good citizens” Opio, one of the officials on the team noted.

Amus College School is among the sixteen schools from eight countries are already confirmed for this CECAFA zone qualification tournament.

Top performers’ purse:

The winners in the boys and girls’ category are expected to win USD 100,000, while the runners-up will take USD75,000 and bronze medalists USD 50, 000.

The victors will represent CECAFA region at the maiden African Schools Football Championship is slated to take place April 7-9, 2023 in Morocco.

Besides supremacy in sports, Amus College School Bukedea proved their academic might with overwhelming performance in the 2022 Ordinary Level Examinations, all students passing.

A massive 51 students exceled with Division one grades, 49 in Division two, 22 in Division three and only 4 in Division 4.
