The Uganda Netball team She Cranes head coach Fred Mugerwa has weighed the team’s performance in the recent trip they went to the United Kingdom.
She Cranes played seven games in the recent trip where they played against the best nations of the game and only managed to pick two victories.
In a press conference at Nob View Hotel, Ntinda, Mugerwa revealed to the press how he was so proud of his troops for the excellent job done.
“We played seven games and lost only two. I believe we would have won more but there were some factors out of our reach that held us,” Mugerwa told the press.
“The most painful loss was against Wales in the first game. It was a team that is under us that is why we came back and destroyed them,” he added.
“As a technical team, we noted a number of things that we ought to change and I believe we shall work on them. So next time they find us it will be a tug of war.”
Stung by errors
Whenever you are playing against top teams, there is always less or no room for error. Mugerwa revealed that they would ably pick a victory against Australia, England, and New Zealand but ‘silly’ errors cost them a lot.
“On several occasions, we were set back by those minor issues. This is attributed to where we train. We always start by training outdoors where there is a lot of wind and sunshine and this limits us a lot.
“We have picked experience and am sure we shall be a better side going forward because we shall do all it takes to rectify our mistakes.”
Need for engagements
Mugerwa called upon the government to help the team play more games to sharpen up but also improve their structures.
“What we need to do is to have more exposure for these players so that they can improve their level of players. My worry is that it might take more than six months without playing.”
“We should also have more engagements on a regional basis to help and allocate talent. Minus the league, our base of the selection is getting smaller which is worrying.”
