Steven Sserwadda Credit: New York Red Bulls

New York Red Bulls II made a U-turn and resigned Ugandan midfielder Steven Sserwadda.

The former KCCA youngster was released by the club at the end of last season after he spent the entire campaign on the side lines.

However, they did announce him as a new signing confirming the news on their club communication channels on Tuesday.

“New York Red Bulls II have signed Ugandan international midfielder Steven Sserwadda to an MLS NEXT Pro contract, the club announced today,” read a statement on the website.

Sserwadda has spent the last three seasons at the club where he made 18 appearances with his debut arriving on October 15, 2021.

But injury sustained while on national duty saw him undergo surgery in April of 2023 to repair a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

Jochen Schneider, Head of Sports at Red Bull said: “We have the complete belief in Steven as a person and as a player to overcome his major injury. We want to be there with him while he returns to the form, we know he can achieve when he has fully recovered.”

Ibrahim Ssekagya, Head coach Red Bull II and assistant coach New York Red Bull said; “Steven is a talented young player that has an incredibly useful skillset in the midfield. We have seen how he can thrive within our system, and we cannot wait to have him back in the squad.”

He re-unites with compatriots Ibrahim Kasule and Frank Ssebuufu who are going into the second season at the club.
